Want to restate that?
How about electrolytics drying out over time or failed resistors from overcurrent condition due to other drifting components. Lets not forget the transistor that decides to let go because the heat sink paste has dried so it cooks. There is more.
I've done both and Eli is right the P-T-P wired tube gear is much easier to maintain and because of that SS often becomes dumpster fodder after it fails. Face it who is going to put $300- $500, if you can get parts, into a 15 year old SS amp that has a value of less than half that?
That is not to say tube gear doesn't age or fail but I can maintain it more easily.
So it's known, I work with electronics at my day job.
