Doubly tunable IF "cans" are nice.
Sourcing replacements for units under repair or a brand new build is anything but easy. A fellow in Germany does make them, but those intended for P2P wiring are cylindrical, mount in a slot, and lock with a wedge.
I think the "parafeed" concept can save the day. Load a tubed IF gain stage with a RF choke. Cap. (mica or NPO ceramic) couple the plate to a reverse connected BJT IF trafo. The cap. keeps B+ from "frying" the low voltage part and reverse connection steps up the signal being fed to the next stage. Unfortunately, the BJT IF "cans" have been discontinued. If you can, find 'em and buy em.
Why, oh why, is so much that's useful becoming NOS and (ultimately) unavailable? :>(( ;>(
