I don't know if I could reliably tell the difference between alnico and ferrite.
I bought the alnico drivers because they are generally regarded to sound better, they are rechargeable, and have higher re-sale value.
Pictured are the GPA 802-8G II mated to a modified Altec 811b powder coated horn.
My experience with titanium cones however differs from yours, as I found that I preferred aluminum. To me it just sounded smoother - a little softer if you will. Different strokes as they say.
Someday when I get some time I would like to attempt to mate a ribbon tweeter with the mid horns (like the folded ribbon in the Golden Ear Tritons). I am happy with them as they are so that experiment may never happen.
