RE: McIntosh 240 Question

The Mc240 could handle a KT88 for a bit and I have tried it but you don't gain anything as far as power because it isn't set up for a KT88. The filament current is considerably more in the KT88 as opposed to the 6L6Gc and 7027 tubes..The KT66 is also more than the 6L6gc or the 7027 as well however since you probably aren't using the C8 preamps that plug into the amp's octal sockets,you have the extra reserve filament current to run KT66s.
