If it's hanging up in its track,yes..I have done that a few times.There is also a mode type rheostat adjustment(s) on these units which was like the mode switch on the old VCRs and the potentiometer mode switch would get dirty and the unit would not cycle properly.In the case of the VCR,it could be between play and rewind and it wouldn't go until you cleaned and reset the mode switch..You always did that with an ohmmeter..
