It could be that one of the plastic tabs that engages the drive system when the drawer closes is either out of adjustment or broken off.

I believe the Marantz uses a Phillips drive, which may mean there is more than one belt that can be stretched out of its working size and/or it has drive gears that break.

I believe you can buy a whole new drive on Ebay.

I know this because of a long, frustrating experience with a Phillips LHH 1000 that was finally consigned to the electronics dump.
