Extra grounding for equipment

I have had a # of receivers setup in my wife's "girl cave" and they tend to get "sparked" with static electricity when she touches them. Eventually, one or both channels fail.

If I were to install a 3-prong plug and attach the earth ground to the chassis, do you expect that I would decrease these failures ?

Thanks in advance.

Years ago I had issues with an old main-frame computer loosing devices and components. I attached extra grounding wires between everything and it seemed to help.
