Triode strapped is what I preferred when I had tubes, but I don't listen to music very loud. I don't think you'd get much argument about the Dynaco Stereo 70 versus Marantz 8B. Many consider the Marantz to be the pinnacle of vintage amps. The stock Dynaco was not perfect, but good results could be had if you are willing to mess with it. I ran Mark IV's for a while and enjoyed them very much. Of course there is better out there.
I was under the impression that the 6BH6 pentode driver tube in the 8/8B was wired in triode. I would love to build an Marantz 8/8B copy some day. I'll never be able to afford the original, and the reissue is also out of my price range.
