Pilot 602: Phono section not working right

I have a re-capped Pilot 602 that's operating weird in the phono section. I tested it with two different turntables and both act the same. It sounds okay at low volumes, but as you turn it up, one channel gets quieter until it totally cuts out as the other gets louder, then at one point the playing channel ceases to get any louder as you continue to turn up the volume.

I checked the phono section tubes and even put in another pair, but no difference. The receiver acts normally when playing AM, FM, or playing a CD player through it. The only problem is in the phono section.

Anyone have an idea where I can look to track down the problem? It would be nice to get this receiver totally fixed.

Larry D.
