RE: Pinging Michael Samra

If the tray is having problems opening, it is usually a slipping belt. What often happens (and I am not familiar with this particular model) is that belt driving the tray is slipping just enough to where it cannot overcome the initial force needed to separate the magnetic clamp from the motor spindle. Tapping it nudges it past that hurdle for a while, then the belt just slips too much entirely and it stops opening altogether.

Find where the belt that drives it is located, and see if you can observe it slipping. I'll bet you do.
