I have a vintage Yamaha CA 810 amp. It makes a buzzing noise I can hear in the headphones or speakers when there is no source. It's not consistent, sometimes I can make it stop. Currently there is no buzz with selector set to speakers off. If I move the selector to A or B or A+B it buzzes, slightly differently for each. SOMETIMES, I can move the muting switch to preamp off, or -20 and it will stop. Or If I move the volume to zero and back up a little it will stop. Once I move the selector to speakers off, it will stop, although in the past it has buzzed on this input too.
I have tried:
connecting the ground on the back to the ground port of an outlet.
removing the power strip it's connected to/ going straight into the outlet
good cleaning with de-oxit
removing all sources
no noticeable improvement from any of these. Any ideas?
