RE: I always had fond memories of their 901 speakers

Oh, the 901s could sound very good when set up wide and away from walls. Kind of a lit-up quality that was very enjoyable for a while. I have no idea what they sounded like in homes, because I worked for a dealer at the time and that is the only place I heard them.

I recall that a customer came in who was a recently minted Ph.D. from MIT, where Amar Bose was on the faculty. He was a committed Bose customer, and wouldn't hear of anything else besides the 901.

To round out the system he bought a McIntosh C28, an MC2105, a Thorens TD125 fitted with a Rabco straight-line arm and a Shure V-15 III.
I helped him carry it out to his car, an old VW bug. Guy had his priorities in the right order, I thought at the time.

Come to think of it, that was the only pair of 901s we sold.
