I've been set with my Main system(s) of modern components for many years. After adding a Marantz 10b tuner to it, I started to develop an appreciation for the old classic stuff. This led to a receiver based system in a spare room and then, over the years, some separates.
Still have the Main but I enjoy the Vintage as much but for different reasons. Only thing I found hard to be satisfied with was Vintage speakers especially after living with Apogees and Maggies for 20 yrs, they just seemed a little dull or too polite.
For a new/vintage blending, I found those new Pioneer BS22's bookshelves to be an excellent pairing with the old Pioneer/Sansui/Marantz receivers.
I like the looks of the old stuff too especially the units with wood cases. The top of the vintage heap for me now is a dedicated Vintage room with some Marantz separates and a pair of walnut Altec Valencia speakers with "some" modern drivers in them.
