Probably what happened is that the original JBL woofer had a foam surround, and whoever owned the speakers couldn't or didn't know how to refoam them.
Looking at the few things I found on line, I didn't see listed what model woofer and midrange are in the 4410. But the tweeter IS the 035Ti, so you might actually have them. I can't really tell from the brochure photo but there might have been a ring of foam around the tweeter that has deteriorated. The speakers are from around 1986 so that's...almost 30 years now...
