RE: A minor tragedy with my Advents, Part II

I looked at the response curves for that woofer, and it has a 10 dB peak at 2 kHz. A first order filter isn't steep enough to reduce that peak to inaudibility; so the speakers will seem to intensify certain notes and voices. If the cabinet is ported, you should have low group delay, so the speaker will seem to have unusually good transient response and be very revealing of recordings.

For a first order crossover, you need a woofer and tweeter that are smooth and roll off naturally outside of the crossover region. The rule of thumb is no significant peaks withing 2 octaves of the crossover frequency. The 27TBFC/G and 27TDFC both meet that criteria; but unfortunately, your woofer does not.
