As another poster stated, many of these receivers with push-to-insert type speaker connectors won't accept larger than 16 (or so)gauge wire.

And, for these terminals I prefer to use bare, or untinned, wires. The copper is malleable and, when the spring clips grip onto it, it compresses it slightly and makes a more secure connection.
