What you need to really do is take the face plate off and clean and lube the tuning shaft that holds your tuning dial cord string.You then need to put a new dial cord on it and its not bad to do if you have a manual which you can pull off line for free.Also,see if there is any obstruction on the tuning capacitor itself and make sure the wheel on the tuning capacitor didn't come loose or crack in the center.
