Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

Ive been listening to it for the last couple of days

With a pair of Dynaco A-35s and then a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 5s -- it's a very good sounding amplifier and very quiet (the quietest EICO in this house!). Kind of homely, though... even by EICO standards :-)

The ST-70 is no slouch, either. On paper, it is certainly the better amplifier... but that particular one has some hiss in it that I haven't tracked down. It was a freebie as well, given to me by an acquaintance sans tubes... but not a dump find.

Yes, people in Harvard are smarter than the average bears even if some of them throw out vintage tube amplifiers with OS tubes including the Mullard 5AR4 in 'em... The town of Harvard, MA has one of the best performing public school systems in MA (and a top-notch high school in US rankings)... at a per pupil cost that's at about the state average, last time I looked. It certainly served our two kids well.

Disclaimer: I was on the town's school committee for seven years :-)

all the best,
mrh
