RE: Sansui SM-30 Issues

Sounds like a volume pot problem.

Stupid question: Was it always like this? Typically tube stereos have a 500k or so volume pot. I think you can still order them. If not I know Goldpoint does have them. Even WITH a loudness connection if needed. Does this one also have a power switch incorporated?

You do need a 500k pot for the low impedance phono stage being it has no cathode follower. And the coupling cap is calculated for 500K - hence FR rolloff.

However it does sound like a faulty volume control.

I would also like to add that you have a nice receiver. Take care of it adn do it right.
