Opinions on Yamaha Preamps Sought

First, a remark directed at the moderator(s). My post here on the Pioneer SX-3700 and at least one response from another inmate was deleted. Did you think I was trying to sell it on the Vintage board? A PM would have been nice.

This is NOT an attempt to sell.

We've had over the last few years the following Yamaha preamps through:

C-50
C-70
C-80
C-4

The C-4 we bought, repaired and sold. Didn't get a chance to evaluate its audiophilic merits.
The C-50 and C-70 seem to be average, pretty good, preamps.

We repaired a customer's C-80, and since we had both a C-50 and C-70 in stock at the same time I was expecting pretty much the same sound. Nope. The C-80 has great dynamics and is, in my opinion, an audiophile quality preamp.

What are others' experiences with the sound qualities of the various Yamaha preamps?
