RE: Has anyone seen this type homebrew amp circuit or know anything about it?

The issue with Loctal tubes is pin corrosion. Scrape the pins with a razor blade or a powered stainless steel wire brush. Don't stinge on the DeOxit. It takes WORK to dispose of the crud, but the effort pays serious dividends.

Once a Loctal tube's pins are clean, it will frequently outperform the electrically equivalent Octal type. Steel pins through glass are more rigid than the Octal central stem, which leads to lower microphonics. Also, some capacitances are smaller.

Remember, regardless of branding, Loctal tubes were made by Sylvania at a time when their product was every bit as good as the stuff made by TungSol and RCA. Consider the rave reviews Sylvania 6SN7s get.
