Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

Mine were

In HS a hand me down Heathkit AR1500 receiver, Dual 1229q Empire 2000 EEE, AR5 speakers. Sounded so much better than my friends Japanese receiver, jBL or Cerwin Vega combos. I began to learn about realism and imageing with this system.

Restored Heath W4 monoblocks, VanAlstilne PAS 3, Thorens TD318 Stanton 881s, Near 10m monitors. I learned how good mono can sound- depth, air, and studio ambience.

Cary 40m-SE monoblocks, Audio Illusions Modulus 3 preamp, Linn LP12 Ittok AT33MLOCC Lundahl SUT Triangle Titus monitors. A Great Leap Forward in reproduction quality, closer to the actual performance.

I think I'm approaching the point of diminishing returns, because meaningful improvement will likely cost me a lot more money.

Fun journey. Fun hobby.

Best, Ross
