IF you get vintage speakers

Some speakers from the tube era prefer tube amps. I recently picked up a pair of EMI DLS 529 "Dangerous Loudspeakers" that I had lusted for as a juvenile audiophile. They sounded really good on some material but not as good as I had remembered. Somebody told me that these speakers were really designed to be used with a tube amp and won't sound their best with solid state. His explanation involved electrical concepts that go beyond my understanding so I won't try to repeat them. But this is a consideration with vintage speakers. You probably want a tube amp from the same era. Modern tube amps tend to sound a lot brighter and -- dare I say it? -- more like solid state than vintage tubes.
It's never too late to turn back the clock.
