Vintage gear is VERY!!!! forgiving when it comes to cables and interconnets.
And yes, with modern gear you can spend more time finding the right cables then matching components.
However I've found that plain old 14ga speaker wire and RCA jacks seem to work pretty darn well with new gear. Go figure that out? But it does for me. Been down a few expensive cable paths and back.
