Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

I love the Altecs for several reasons...

but once Brian mentioned the Grommes, I do prefer the sound of my Grommes. I consider the Mac stuff pretty pedestrain, especially when you consider how much they cost. I've never owned the 225 but a friend of mine has a couple of them and he likes them a lot. I still have a 240, but that's mostly because I want to have some chrome Mac in the collection to go along with the earlier Mac that I decided long ago were keepers.

In addition to the Grommes, I would recommend the Scott mono amps as nice sounding alternatives, especially the 240 and 280. The 250 I consider a later step child. 232B's are also pretty good, but can be a little harder to find.
