well -- on the one hand, Philips invented the CompactCassette

but their hifi cassette decks never caught on (in the US).
In the ca. 1978 "Philips High Fidelity" catalog I have, there is only one cassette deck (but two reel to reels). The deck in your post, I've never seen.

I suspect that they made some good, perhaps even fine decks... and that they were popular in Europe and the ROW (Rest of the World); just not in Amurrica.
