RE: Also - the tubes in there are labelled 6BQ5s

According to McShane, many of the later 7189 tubes are the same as the 6bq5. They just labelled some 6bq5 and some 7189, but all were rated higher like the 7189. Unfortunately you don't know if your 6bq5 are true ones or 7189. If you have the bias pot then you can dial them in anyway. Just try them at about 10 watts dissipation and see how it sounds. If they are true 7189 tubes then go for 11-11.5 watts. The screens are about 5% so you have a safety margin. You know the drill, just measure the plate - cathode voltage and then you know the true plate voltage. if you know the voltage drop across that cathode resistor on each tube you know the cathode current. That along with the plate voltage will give you the idle power dissipation in the tube. The 6bq5 is rated at 12 watts, the 7189 is 13.2 watts. So 9-10 watts at idle is good for the 6bq5 and the 7189 can take 11 -11.5 watts. Have fun
