A lot of persons seem to use it that way and as such it is okay. For better look for a Marantz 1060, though, much better. We used to sell the 1060 to persons who for system budget constraints wanted to put their money into some other component such as speakers or tape deck limiting the funds for a separate preamp of similar quality.
