RE: nice receiver -- but...

Pioneer did have some interesting speakers, like the CS-901's. The earlier Alnico drivered speakers can be a very good match with tube gear. Early, tube era Pioneer speakers are very will built.

The Pioneer CS-G303 speakers are pretty much as you say. They are a non descript 3 way with cone tweeters. As long as he is not paying much money, they will do as a start. With a recap and some bracing, they will be listenable. I would not pay much for them. Maybe $40 a pair, tops. I agree that the Knight 333 deserves better.
