RE: Vintage (or not) Receiver

Just hit the local thrift store and Craigslist and pick up just about anything that is cheap, works and the lights work. Forget the Dynacos and look for something newer that when he blows the woofer cone across the room you wil not get upset or, a can of beer into the receiver.

By the time he is a 2d semester sophomore if the setup is still working then consider getting something better.

Or even get a T-amp and some decent but, cheap computer speakers.

Admittedly, I did not take this advice when my younger brother went to Hofstra. I gave him one of my Marantz 19s and a pair of Wharfedale W70Ds with a Miracord 50HII. No, he did not destroy them and they lived through undegrad and law school and the first 10 years of his single life only to be displaced by a new wife who had no WAF for them.
