When I was in high school and saw this system in the Audio Associates that was in Wheaton Plaza, I preferred the black too. However, now, almost everything I have is black, and I would rather have silver. I have seen the silver Nak rack and it is really nice looking.

They made a separate preamp, but, as you said, no separate tuner. My friend has one and it is really a mixer. With all the features, it is still a great sounding unit. It is very well made and still works fine today.
