Not me

I owned a bunch of 1970s receivers from U.S. and Japanese brands, starting with Marantz in 1970. Not one manufacturer had sonics that I liked much. That's why I purchased so many, attempting to find good sound. Maybe somebody made a nice-sounding one but I could not find it. By 1976 I gave up on receivers, trying integrated amplifiers followed by solid-state separates, then tube separates. Only the tube components made my ears happy.

In my experience, there were some very nice phono cartridges (which I still have and sometimes use), great FM supertuners, and terrific loudspeakers made in the 1970s. Receivers, nope.

The first solid-state amplification components that I really liked, in 2002, came from McIntosh, then a Quad 909 power amp much later. The preamp section of a Yamaha Aventage RX-A2020 AV receiver, which I am using in our theater system, is superb as well.

As for the 1970s, I would rather forget those years as far as receivers are concerned.

In short, for me, there is no point in comparing an Insignia receiver against what would likely be a crummy-sounding 1970s-era unit.

Heavens, too many bad hi-fi memories came flooding back!
