I am in the US and most users are in the US, so my experience may be different than yours.

A Buy It Now listing costs $0.50 to enter. This cost is designed to encourage sellers to list just about anything they can because, well the price to do so is essentially pocket change. Sellers can list at whatever price they want, and many choose a very high price on the odd chance that someone will come along who absolutely needs that item and will pay that price.

I have not agreed to use Ebay International Shipping or Ebay Assisted Shipping. I calculate my own shipping charges and for small items I offer free shipping, which is reflected in my price. For larger items, I offer subsidized shipping costs, but I am always in control of what is charged.

I stand by my original point. Bargains are still out there. In fact before I won the box of tubes, I missed a few others because someone had been quicker to act.
