RE: digital disapointments

So was mine. I borrowed it from a friend to see how CD sounded compared to my phono system. Even bought a copy of Darkside of the Moon as a comparison. My son was with me when I ran the experiemnt. He was very disappointed when they sounded the same. I was delighted, as it meant I could get a CD player and not have to re-voice the whole system.

At that time, our local good music station was ocassionally doing live broadcasts from the Oberlin Conservatory. The best FM I ever heard, and I used that as my reference to set up the system.

The first CD I owned was an early Onkyo DX220 that I loved and used until it died in 2001. That was replaced by a Rotel RCD-971 that's still in service. I have tried a lot of others; but those two were the best.
