The one thing I would add to JGH's comments - if a listener consistently listens to a system that is shrill or harsh (as JGH describes in his reading) then he/she will become conditioned to that sound, and begin to regard it as accurate. Subsequently when that same listener hears a system with very good highs - without the added shrillness or harshness - they will for a time tend to regard the better performing new system as inferior to what they were used to hearing, until such time as they get adjusted and "used to" the better system.
