Those particular thermistors are for energizing the degaussing circuit coil in the old color tv sets..It allows the 117vac to pass to the degaussing coil for a second or two and then opens up because if it didn't,your picture would look like a bunch of rainbow colors running together.
What you need is a thermistor with a neg temp coefficient like a CL80 or a CL90 that starts higher in resistance and then lowers as it's on longer.
