RE: RCA attenuators or passive pre to reduce output from CD player?

The one I have is a resistor based 23 step, stepped attenuator, using 1% tolerance Dale/Vishay resistors. Having now tried it, I think I am using the step that gives approx. 18dB attenuation and it works fine. Will maybe make some in line attenuators of that specific value but there's now no urgency to do so.
