I want to use a SACD into a vintage Yamaha receiver but find that I can't really use much of the volume control on the Yamaha, due to the high output of the SACD player. I was therefore thinking about getting some in line, RCA attenuators, in order to lower the output from the CD player. Before I do, though, I wondered about using a resistor based stepped attenuator that I already have built up as a passive pre amp, that is sitting idle at present. Would the passive pre amp do the same job as the in line RCA attenuators?
