RE: Advice for a newbie

If you want 70s British, consider the iconic NAD 3020 integrated amp. For a turntable, the Connoisseur BD2 punched way above its weight class, due in no small part to its Decca designed tonearm. A Shure M-91 cartridge works well with it. Although not British, the Harman Kardon 330 and 430 receivers were very good, don't know about their availability in Britain though.

AR recommended 15 watts minimum for the AR7, so a great many 70s solid state amps and receivers will have enough power for them.
