my first real receiver was a sony 5045 (i think) of 30wpc. i played sergio mendez' primal roots album and there was distortion on the gong. i immediately called my friend and told him i needed a new cartridge. he asked why and i told him about the distortion.
he said to turn down the gain and play it again and if the distortion went away, it was from not enough power in the amp of the reciever. he was right. i went right away and bought the 8900a--problem solved. i loved the sherwood's sound and kept it until i went with separates about 1 1/2 years later.
don't try to run electrostats with it though. that will NOT work.
