I hope your realized that I wasn't being serious. They do have a weaker magnetic field, and if properly designed and implemented, can have lower hum. They have a higher frequency cutoff and don't like DC on the AC line. However, in proper designs, these are not issues. None the less, you can still get very good results with an EI transformer, and I would not reject an amp, out of hand if it had an EI instead of a toroidal. I also think part their popularity is due to their smaller size, allowing for low profile cases (cool looks).
