EPI 400 top/bottom removal

Has anyone ever removed the top (or bottom) panel from an EPI 400 tower? I see a line of staples along each face (behind the grille) about 1/4" from the top. I'm assuming that the staples are driven thru the side face into cleats attached to the underside of the top panel, and that if I remove the staples, I may be able to pop the top off. I also expect that the joints are glued in addition to the staples. I'm worried that if I remove the staples and try pounding the top off, that the glue between the panels will be stronger than the particle board, and something will break, instead of parting at the seams.

If it's easy enough to do, I'd like to remove the tops to re-veneer them, and remove the bottoms to make it easier to rewire everything.

While I'm at it, can anyone recommend a specific wood veneer and finish that will be a good match to the classic EPI walnut?

Thanks,
Paul
