You could conclude receivers of that time were getting some good attention in the engineering depo in that the home theater movement was on the rise and manufacturers had a vested interest to make some solid gear that would really impress.
However as others have said. For 2 ch music playback there is far better gear. But again, for a consumer nothing special piece of gear, I was impressed. Again, considering today it would cost far more to make and profit such an item. I did find a link on google stating crutchfield sold it for about $550 in its time. So it was a mid level unit. Even more surprising seeing the build level present.
