RE: TD-124 For Sale In The Bronx ...

Hi Joe,

It has been a long time! I guess I wasted my $50 I paid for the Rek-O-Kut Rondine deluxe B12H (idler). Actually, when I bought the thing (before the idler craze), I thought I was throwing my money away, but I wanted the 2 Scott 222D amps that the guy was selling for cheap, only if I took the turntable. You know how those deals go, and I figured I could use it as a 78 table.

JL Labs has inexpensive rebuild suggestions on their website, so I won't be risking a lot getting it running, and I can always sell it for a bundle if I don't like it.

I have never heard a TD-125 so I cannot say, but the design always seemed a bit complex and strange to me, using a belt and an idler together. I have heard belt drive Thorens tables that sounded quite good. However, it seems that suspended tables are out of vogue too! Thorens does not even make them any more. I still can't get my mind around why that is now a bad idea.

I am curious about you Futterman OLT. What do you think of its sound. Did you find a way around the reliability problem?

Dave
