RE: Maggies

We got some old Maggies at the thrift shop I volunteer at. They sounded terrible. I had sold Maggies in the early 80's and I knew that this speaker sounded good when new. I did some research and found out that pretty much all of them need a rebuild eventually and it is not easy or cheap. We wound up selling them to a regular customer who had the knowledge and the desire to rebuild them. We sold them too him cheap because of the condition.

"Back in the day" I heard Maggies driven by a Berning amp (30 watt tube) and they played plenty loud and good too. I suspect your Maggies are ready for a rebuild. By the way, Berning made a very nice amp and preamp at that time. If you stumble onto one, buy it!
