I used a Grado Blue in my AR-XA for a while without any major hum problem. BUT, I don't have very efficient speakers (Boston A-70's), and I live in a condo so I don't listen real loud, and hum just isn't that much of a problem in my setting.

I had a Shure M91ED at one time too and that is a nice arrangement on the AR-XA as well. If you can find one, you'll be happy with it.

Sadly my AR-XA needs restoration and is currently sitting in a box in storage right now, replaced for the time being with a Technics SL-1200...which is a very good table in its own right. Someday, the XA will be brought back to life.
