Trouble with Vandersteens is you can't inspect the drivers. You have to hear them first. Be sure all 8 drivers are functioning. (I just sold mine). Those have the better stands. They are good sounding speakers if everything is in order and you use high quality biwiring.
Buying gear impulsively, thinking I was getting a 'great deal', is how my basement got full of almost-right mid-fi equipment. It took over a year to sell it all (bargains for the buyers).
