to place speaker system known to modern man. Trust me , I talked to Winslow directly on these. I have a pair of EPI M-400's (early S/N only one year 1973-rubber surrounds-see my tower on the Human site).
Here's the scoop. Go back to your geometry class, if you had one, and remember the ellipse. Now imagine an ellipse circumscribed within the dimensions of your room. So your room better be longer than its wide. Your optimum placement of these speakers are at the focal points of the ellipse. Google this, you will see what I'm talking about. Winslow knew he had challenges with this- how many customers could accomadate this placement? In my basement the speakers would have to be about 8 feet off the wall, and about 25 feet apart. Try wiring those now to your system! And your room better be empty-try that with the WAF! So your placement is all about compromise now. Fool around these are fun. You will quickly learn they will be your main "back ground" music dedicated to atmosphere while engaging in conversation. If your going to dig in, I would upgrade all the wire to at least 16 AWG and replace all the caps with fast Solens poly's. I'm forced to hold mine in exile, because of the grill cloth design, my F&*#$*& cat wont leave the grill cloth alone. thats because most of it is mdf backed, creating a nice structured surface for which to claw on. I'm thinking of having covers made for mine. They need to excecised by my Marantz 510M/3600 pre combo.Good luck, some pics would be great!
