I bought a pair of Omni Audio "White Van" speakers yesterday at a local garage sale for $15. They actually look like new.
So, I took them over to a buddy's house with the intent on ripping them apart and looking at the quality, ot lack of, of the components.
As you can see, the drivers don't look too terrible but the cabinet is not braced at all. We hooked it up to a low power tube amp and here's what we discovered.
With a low-power, quality amp, these speakers do not sound too bad at all. They actually imaged fairly well. They sounded good enough for my buddy to buy 'em from me for the $15 I have in them. We did notice the cabinets had a lot of vibration, even at low volume. Not very audible, but just putting your hand on the top with about 2 watts going through them you could feel the vibration. This leads us to assume with a high-power SS amp, these things would sound horrible!
But, I got another pair of these off the street and my buddy is going to use them as his "Porch" system speakers.
