but do you have proper tracking force applied?

I.e., they might have turned/moved the counterweight in the back, allowing to be set with very low tracking force or none, so the arm just goes toward the slant of your shelf if not perfectly horizontal (toward the spindle if the table or shelf is angled that way, for instance).
